Elegance and wealth

I am not wealthy. I have been studying wealth, and wealthy people, for many years now, but I do not count myself as one of, ‘them’. As an avid people watcher, studying wealth-and people’s attitudes toward money has been immensely entertaining. Especially during the election.

In my studies, I have learned that different cultures dress, and behave, different from one another in regards to their wealth and how they identify with other persons in their economic circles. The old adage, ‘birds of a feather flock together’ really does hold true… especially when it comes to money.

According to, Ginie Sayles’ book; How to Meet the Rich for Business, Friendship, or Romance, there are 6 types of classes of Rich people and each has it’s own dress code, home decor code, and standards/types of etiquette. There are the; Old Money Pedigrees, Flamboyant Old Money, Status New Rich, Practical New Rich, Celebrity Rich, and Roller-Coaster Rich.

I believe, our new President and his family are Old-ish Money Pedigree with, Melania being grafted in through marriage (Old-ish because his family’s wealth was not built over centuries as is say, the wealth of royalty such as the family wealth of Prince William, but Trump was raised with Old Money mentality which has been passed on to his children, and now his grandchildren). Melania is Status New Rich through her marriage to Trump, but she is displaying many of the characteristics of Old Money Pedigree or (OMP). I would love to know how she transformed herself from model to elegant wife of a Billionaire to soon-to-be first Lady. She truly is someone one who has made a deliberate effort to change her stars.

Although, Melania has not fully embraced the entire OMP way of life, preferring pastels to primary colors, she is more OMP than not OMP. Meaning, OMP persons are subtle about money. Well, as subtle as one can be when one is a Billionaire. OMP persons do not go out of their way to draw attention to themselves. They do not dress flashy. They dress well. Dressing well doesn’t mean your labels are showing. For an OMP, dressing well means spending a bit more, or much more if necessary, for quality clothing that lasts. OMP’s do not follow fashion trends as some people do who change their look as often as the weather changes. OMP’s buy well made, and if needed- tailored, clothing. They are always clean and well groomed. OMP’s do not draw attention to themselves by speaking in a loud tone (deliberately or otherwise), or by dressing flashy, or by using $50.00 words, or by name dropping, or bragging about their wealth (not even would they humble brag).

I believe President-elect Trump, his wife Melania and all the rest of the Trump clan are going to be good for America in so many ways but especially in showing Americans what it truly means to be wealthy and not just play at having money. They will show America what is true compassion and management of wealth? It is not spending a half billion of tax payers’ money on vacations for oneself and one’s family.  I find it interesting that the same people who never complained about the extravagant vacations taken by the Obama’s on our dime are demanding that, Trump pay for his own security which is a valid entitlement/expense for the President.

Instead of continuing to lose their minds about what is done; the election is over, Trump won, get used to it, it is time to be quiet, stop making assumptions based in fear and just observe.

I, for one, am excited that people get to observe a different kind of wealth than obnoxious celebrity wealth. To me, it’s as if the whole nation gets to  have front row seats at the biggest, this-is-how-it’s-done, etiquette/comportment class in history. Observe and learn, people… observe and learn.
